An Inside Look at Writing Site Examiner.com

If you like to write and are good at reviewing, then Examiner.com may be the freelance writing site for you. Examiner focuses on specific cities and topics, and it chooses writers who can write for those niches. If you fit a certain niche, you get the job.

From what I’ve heard, Examiner pays a pretty good sum to writers who regularly contribute content. Payments are based on page views; therefore, the more and better articles you write, the higher your payout.

I was initially introduced to Examiner through a writer on Associated Content (another writing site which I review here). Jennifer Wagner is a regular contributor of quality content to Examiner (being the Charlotte Interior Improvement Examiner), and she has agreed to review the site for Your Money and Debt readers. Down below, she writes of her experience with  Examiner:

Examiner is an online publication that offers a money making opportunity for freelance writers. At Examiner, writers select a city near them to write for and a topic they’d like to focus on. Some of the topics available are Parenting, Home and Living, Arts & Entertainment, Health, and so on. Once you’ve selected your city and topic, you’ll submit a short application and writing sample.

If you are accepted, a channel manager is assigned to you, who will set up your Examiner page and send you monthly tips and information. You can begin publishing immediately. While there is no upfront payment offered, you will receive a very decent rate of one cent per page view. This may not sound like much, but it can quickly add up once you find a way to increase your page views. For example, I recommend taking advantage of any holidays or special events. Try to work the holiday or event into your particular niche and you’ll see a very good payday.

Speaking of payday, you must have a Pay Pal account to get paid from Examiner. You’ll need to reach a $ 25.00 threshold before you can receive payment, but it should only take about a month to reach that level. Payments are issued automatically on or about the 20th of each month.

To give you an idea of what to expect with Examiner, I have been with them for just under two months and have earned approximately three hundred dollars. To view my Examiner page, please

The publishing tool at Examiner is easy to use, and allows writers to easily link articles together. You have the option of interacting with other writers on Examiner, by leaving comments and/or subscribing to other’s work, however it is not mandatory. There are also helpful writing resources available through websites designed exclusively for Examiner writers.

Jenny, I certainly appreciate your efforts in getting the word out about Examiner and for reviewing the site for Your Money and Debt. I should add that Jenny is a regular and tireless content producer for Associated Content as well; to visit her Associated Content pages, click here.

On a personal note, I am the Milwaukee Craft Beer Examiner for Examiner.com. However, due to time and work constraints (not to mention excessive beer examining), I’ve produced only one measly article for Examiner. Oh well, we can’t all be like Jenny.
